FREEDOM OF CHOICE
|
Freedom of choice is one of the achievements of the democratic society. But to be free doesn't mean to do whatever you want. Choosing this or that way of behavior one should be always sure not to hurt those nearby or dependent on you.
In principle young people are free to choose any education they want, but to have a really good one a person should either work really very hard or have a lot of money to pay for education.
A person is free to choose whom to be friends with, to express his ideas to other people, but one has no right to impose his opinion on others, still less to use force, if we speak about democracy.
In democratic countries the law is beyond criticism. Restrictions in the society should be rather few but everyone must obey. If it's prohibited to cross the street at the red signal one should not try to even in the case there are no cars in the street. On the other hand, if a pedestrian is going to cross the street in a proper place, cars should wait.
In two words democracy means you can do practically everything you like unless it interferes with the interests of other people. |
