Graffity has been a problem since aerosols appeared. On the other hand, graffity has become an art form which is popular with the young people in the UK, the USA, as well as in Russia.
I can't say that graffity is something very good or bad. It depends on the manner in which graff is done and can be either an act of vandalism or a piece of art.
Usually young people scribble on walls and don't think if it is terrible or nice. They express their feelings drawing on walls and no one can change this.
Man has always scribbled or drawn on walls since prehistoric times. The messages of modern young people on the walls are principally the same a prehistoric man used as a means of communication. But now young people also want to attract attention. Some of them are real vandals, spoiling everything they touch. Their graffity is everywhere: on walls of houses, on windows of trains, on bridges and so on. This addictive habit costs a lot of money - it is awfully difficult to wipe graffity off. The graffity of vandals often looks disgusting.
On the other hand, some pieces of graffity are true art. Even art dealers have started to show interest in them. Graffity can be a result of immediate reaction or a thought-out expression. It may be an individual scribble, often just the initials of the artist, or something like a mural.
So I think that graffity can be both mindless vandalism and an art form. It depends on whether a graffity piece has been drawn by a creative person or a simple vandal.
But I think, that I understand vandals, because often they are young men from poor families with much time to spare. They have no other way to attract attention. So I think the policemen should not only catch and punish graffity vandals, but also explain them, that it is an addictive habit. Only in this way in my opinion it will be possible to keep streets, walls, buses, etc. clean. |
