UP IN SMOKE

Nowadays a very large group of people all over the world smoke. Some people, being heavy smokers, smoke almost every moment and actually can't live without a cigarette. They smoke because a "fag" has become an integral part of their life. Others don't smoke so much and practically have other reasons for that health damaging habit.
One of the reasons a person may start smoking is the desire not to look stupid in front of smoking people. Some boys and girls think smoking makes them look big and hard , that a "fag" helps in a quarrel. Others are pressed by classmates or neighbours who think that if a person doesn't smoke he is simply too soft to try or there is something wrong with him.
But having had a puff it is very difficult to give up smoking. Although people trying a cigarette for the first time feel dizzy, start coughing, nearly faint away, if they have two or three of them they get involved in smoking.
Most smokers know that smoking damages their health, that it is killing a lot of people in the whole world. Only few understand that their smoking is very bad also to the people around them. A person, especially a child, being next to one smoking a cigarette, gets the same quantity of poison as if he had smoked one-fourth of a cigarette himself. A child of heavy smokers inevitably first becomes a passive smoker, then - an active one. Usually such people say that their health is in danger anyway as they they are breathing in their parents' smoke.
As for me, I am not a passive smoker. My friends don't smoke and my parents don't smoke either. I'd like not to smoke in the future. I really have an opinion that smoking is nothing good for me and perhaps for anybody. I'd better try to live a little bit longer without a cigarette. |
